Cave paintings make you think 40,000 years old? Wow! Definitely worth the entrance fee (currently €10) & thankfully no commercialism in sight. Not for the doddery or claustrophobics amongst us. The surface is quite slippery & there are hand rails from time to time but you do need to be cautious. The formation of stalagmites & stalactites is stunning & varied throughout. The caves are vast & really the tour only scratches the surface of them all but the hour is probably sufficient.

WOW DUSTWIND CAVE ENTRANCE FULL

The entrance to the caves is very low requiring you to crouch but once in its full height & some! Everything must be left (securely) in this entrance room then specific torches are provided. In fairness, you are told this when you book - and booking is required. You’re lulled into thinking ‘you’ve arrived’ at the car park when in fact, there are some 140 steps up to the entrance. Others came by taxi from our hotel (Molino del Santo) nearby. The walk up the mountain (we’re Nordic Walkers) was challenging but the views made up for it. I took a group of 16 to these amazing caves. Literally keep heading north, and you will eventually walk right up to a cave known as Dustwind Cave (53,29). This was a very neat tour and the cave drawings were the highlight! It was amazing to think how they ever managed to make these drawings in this deep dark cave so long ago! We all really enjoyed it (2 grandparents, 2 parents, and a 5 and 3 year old). Its located on the flatlands above the road from Razor Hill to Orgrimmar. Our tour guide spoke Spanish and English, so he would explain somethng first in Spanish, and then again in English. There is a primitive trail and stone steps throughout the tour, but beware, it is a damp cave, so also very slippery. The experience is very rustic.no lights inside the cave except the battery operated laterns everyone carries. Also note, there are NO bathrooms anywhere near the tour. It's about a 5 to 10 minute hike up the hill. Plan ahead to allow time to walk the trail before checking in. After parking in a gravel area, it is a steep up hill ascent to get to the check-in booth and cave entrance. We actually were able to book same day, but make sure you call before you get there to see if that is possible. We booked this tour on our way from one town to the next.
